quest for immortality

Quest for Immortality – The World of Ancient Egypt offers an insight to the ancient Egyptian’s attitude to life and the afterlife, and the preparations they made to ensure their transition from earthly existence to immortality. Discover the Egyptians’ means of equipping the dead – through mummification, provision of sustenance, magic and ritual – and explore the evolution of their burial rites as well as the changing relationship between man and ritual through time.

The exhibition ends on Apr 4 and admission is S$15 per person, a little disappointing is that it is a small exhibition. Join the guided tour if you want to enjoy the exhibits to the max.

bag story
A free exhibition that chronicles the story of the shopping bag of Singapore from the 60s to the 80s is free at The Balcony. Dont those red/white string handles bring back some childhood memories.

Soup Restaurant

Back in Soup Restaurant for a dost of Samsui chicken, soups, braised sea cucmber with duck wings and steam Lanpin fish

I think……I am done with this restaurant, it is expensive and the food don’t interest me anymore.

I would not have gone if not because I had ran out of ideas to host my friend.

Wasabi Tei

wasabi tei
I heard that the lines at this place is super long, passed by a few occasion after 7pm and I see at least 10 people waiting patiently outside for their turn to go in the small eatery. Since I was there on a random Saturday, way before its opening hour at 12pm, I decided to be the 1st customer. The place opened at 1215pm and within 10min the place that can sit 16 customers were promptly filled up and there was a line outside by 1230pm. There were a lot of “not to do” or “have to do” which I had to read to understand what I was getting myself into. Basically, cash only, no service charge, no GST and of course, the service was mediocre…in fact, a tad impatient….

L’Officiel, Ed Pinaud GWP

L'Officiel x Ed Pinaud
I pre-ordered this from the website after I see a few local beauty bloggers posting this around. I did not know about the Ed Pinaud brand but then, to get a eye shadow quad worth $59 just with a $6.60 magazine (March edition mail inclusive) I thought it was a pretty sweet deal.

Mocca Latte
I have to agree that the eye shadow do not look cheap. It was housed in a shiny gold metallic casing, the shadow pigments were great. I like the idea of a plastic cover on top of the eye shadows as sometimes they tend to flake out.  It comes with 2 brushes.

Lao Liang Pork Trotter Jelly

feeling nostalgic
What on earth made me took a 1 hour bus ride out…..

store
Being a teochew, sad to say…I don’t know much of my dialect nor its food much except that Teochew loves porridge and steamed promfret is our signature dish with it. After seeing this I decided to head down 1 day to try the pork trotter jelly. (I heard there is another famous stall at Chinatown but I am not sure). The stall auntie was really friendly and upon hearing that we came down especially to try her dishes, she said she would give us extra portions and gave us samples of her new product!

shark meat

Chilled shark meat that goes with the homemade plum sauce. Meat was fresh and chilled but there wasn’t much taste to it.

pork jelly

pork jelly close up
The famous pork jelly, that auntie said is cooked over hours and the jelly is PURE COLLAGEN from the meats no additive like jelly powder or cornstarch. Seriously, I might agree with her on that as I did see the pork jelly getting soft and melting under the hot air in the hawker centre after it was served 30minutes later. The new proudct was shark meat jelly but I personalyl do prefer the pork one more. The condiment that goes with this dish would be chilli with minced ginger

stew pork

The stewed pork, oh man..they are so good! The chilli sauce with a tinge of lime juice….oh gosh….

in full force
The amazing thing is that I don’t feel that there was too much grease on the food. Usually, when food in this manner usually leave a greasy and oily feeling in your tummy after you were stuffed with it but seriously I did not feel it this way and in fact I was wanting for more! The food tastes were subtle and maybe that is why, you yearn for more? :)

Random hauls over the 3 months

Kiehl's
It is surprising, that how much I shop without leaving the comfort of my chair most of the time nowadays….. *click click click*
Ok, this doesn’t count as an overseas haul but I took advantage of the Kiehl’s 20% discount promotion sometimes back. The prices were close enough to the USA prices after the discount as I did a massive buy as their Amino Acid hair care line is really my favorite as it leave the hair really soft and smooth. Got the sunflower line for my mum and sister to try out as they have colored hair.

MM continues
Majorilca from Taiwan….Prices in Taiwan is cheaper by 20% and Taiwan’s prices are lower to Japan’s (surprisingly) due to the strong yen…So buy your majorilca from Taiwan next time.

Castledew lip palette
This technically, cant count as a haul since I got this as a gift….but since it is my new beauty overseas product, I would put it in this entry. Castledew lip palette from Korea, 4 tones of pink colors with the 1st 2 with more shimmer and the other 2 colors in matte form.

book hooks
you need a apple cover?
Taobao purchases (Taobao is like the China ebay but the prices are really cheap but you might get counterfeit items or bad quality items sometimes so buy with low expectations) and I got bag hooks and iphone casings. This haul included items from other friends since it is more economical to share the shipping. The bag hooks are going for an average of $6 and the casing at $5, so I considered them a steal…
