Nami Island, South Korea – Day 6(a)

The main reason for staying over night at Chuncheon is that we do not need to wake up too early to head to Nami Island. Chuncheon is only 30minutes away by train to Gapyeong where you can take a 5 minutes taxi ride to the Nami island ferry terminal or wait for the public bus which comes in 30minutes interval. My advice is just hope on the taxi and get to the terminal within 5 minutes, the cost is only about 3000Won. Bus ride for 2 is already 2000Won and you have to wait for at least 20 minutes and for people like me who don’t know any Korean, it was really tough to decide which was the correct bus to board.

Namiseom is a tiny half-moon shaped island located in Chuncheon, South Korea, formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐) in 1944. Its name originated from General Nami (남이장군), who died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason during the reign of King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Although his grave wasn’t discovered, there were a pile of stones where his body was supposed to be buried. It was believed that if someone took even one stone from there, it would bring misfortune to their house.

Since I was there, might as well re-trace the steps of the actor and actress…..The island is really small and can be covered on food within 1 hour. You can also rent a bicycle and ride around the island which was very pleasant in the cool Spring weather. A lot of students were there as part of their school excursions and so the whole island was bustling with life!

Firing up some porcelain baking too..

The first kiss spot, but the snowmen/snow women has their “faces” now =P

Nothing beats a bowl of steaming instant noodles in the cold and some spicy kimchi pancake……AH, I love Spring weather but the poor Sushi san was suffering from the pollen allergies. 😛
