Izu, Japan – Day 4(a)

Shinkasen bento. I usually would wait to eat my meals on the trains as there is so much to choose from the myriad of bentos to choose from in the train stations…Of course, enjoying a meal in the quiet and comfortable ride..This beats any domestic flights I had taken before in the past.

The Izu Peninsula (Izu Hanto) is a resort area about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, popular for its hot springs, beautiful coastlines, beaches, mild climate, scenic mountainous interior and views of Mount Fuji from its western coast. The peninsula’s eastern coast and the Shuzenji area are well connected with Tokyo by trains, while the less developed western coast and other areas are served by buses. Izu is also a great place to be explored by rental car, motorbike or bicyle.

Japan Guide

Many of the stations have foot baths.

The first stop was Jogasaki Coast (城ヶ崎海岸) which can be reached from Jogasaki Station on foot with a 30minutes hike.

It was a relatively easy walk with proper footpaths, would have been nice if the weather was cooler.

The Jogasaki Coast is a beautiful section of coastline along the Izu Peninsula’s eastern coast. An almost ten kilometer long hiking trail with beautiful views of the jagged cliffs and stone formations follows the coast.

Japan Guide

Izu peninsula is much easier to access via car so it would be a good idea to rent a car and go around the region.

Suspension bridge that spans across the 48meters high rocks, this was really popular with the tourists.
