[Cultural Exchange] Kyudo (弓道)

Japanese Archery
One thing about being an international student is that there would be abundant cultural activities for you to choose from and for you to understand more of Japanese culture. Most of the sport activities are held in the Higashifushi Campus about 30 minutes away from the actual Waseda campus.

1 of the activities I joined in would be Kyudo, Japanese archery. Read more about it here

It started with a introduction to us on how the sports took place.

Even the collection of the arrows is very much a ritual with many steps in between.

Japanese Archery
We practice with the top nock to learn how to pose, to pull the string and release the arrow. It was a little scary at first as the string would be held close to your face and you have to release it.

Japanese Archery
For us, we shoot like less than 1 meter and it was still very tough as most of us still didn’t manage to hide the target. It was an interesting 3 hours for us where we could try out this ancient sport.
