Nakaminato Fish market (那珂湊おさかな市場) / Hitachikaihin Park (国営ひたち海浜公園)

Ibaraki
On a second weekend of May, we headed up north to Ibaraki Perfecture which is about 1.5 hours away from Tokyo. Once we set out away from the bustling busy Tokyo life, everything seems to be moved back a couple of years back…..where times seems to have stopped in the 80s or 90s….

Ibaraki FIsh Market
First stop would be Nakaminato (那珂湊駅) to check out their fish market which is about 15 minutes walk from the station.

Ibaraki Fish Market
The fish market was bustling with people. Mainly local tourists arriving in bus loads for lunch and other locals who drove there for a day trip.

Ibaraki FIsh Market
Too bad for us as the fish market was our first stop as it was VERY CHEAP and fresh. People were buying in boxes and transporting them to the trucks of their cars or to the luggage compartment of their travel bus.

Ibaraki Fish Market
Clams in one huge basket for only 1200JPY, you only get like 1/8 of it for around 400JPY in Tokyo supermarkets….

Fishermen busy with customers’ requests.

Ibaraki Fish Market
Plenty of seafood eateries to choose from. One huge bowl of Sashimi Seafood rice bowl is only 1500JPY and filled to bream. Unfortunately for us, we arrived at around 12pm which is the peak time for lunch and the lines for all the shops were all too long for us to wait since we wanted to head to the Park which is another 40 minutes away.

So we made do with the food carts with steamed crabs, freshly chucked oysters, bbq gian prawns and grilled scallops.

Walked back to the station and proceeded on our journey to the next station, Ajigaura (阿字ヶ浦駅) to take the shuttle bus to Hitachikaihin Park(国営ひたち海浜公園) for our travel highlight.

国営ひたち海浜公園
Finally arrived at Hitachi Seaside Park which has flowers blooming through the year.
