On a second weekend of May, we headed up north to Ibaraki Perfecture which is about 1.5 hours away from Tokyo. Once we set out away from the bustling busy Tokyo life, everything seems to be moved back a couple of years back…..where times seems to have stopped in the 80s or 90s….
First stop would be Nakaminato (那珂湊駅) to check out their fish market which is about 15 minutes walk from the station.
The fish market was bustling with people. Mainly local tourists arriving in bus loads for lunch and other locals who drove there for a day trip.
Too bad for us as the fish market was our first stop as it was VERY CHEAP and fresh. People were buying in boxes and transporting them to the trucks of their cars or to the luggage compartment of their travel bus.
Clams in one huge basket for only 1200JPY, you only get like 1/8 of it for around 400JPY in Tokyo supermarkets….
Fishermen busy with customers’ requests.
Plenty of seafood eateries to choose from. One huge bowl of Sashimi Seafood rice bowl is only 1500JPY and filled to bream. Unfortunately for us, we arrived at around 12pm which is the peak time for lunch and the lines for all the shops were all too long for us to wait since we wanted to head to the Park which is another 40 minutes away.
Post tsunami photos back in 2011.
So we made do with the food carts with steamed crabs, freshly chucked oysters, bbq gian prawns and grilled scallops.
Walked back to the station and proceeded on our journey to the next station, Ajigaura (阿字ヶ浦駅) to take the shuttle bus to Hitachikaihin Park(国営ひたち海浜公園) for our travel highlight.
Finally arrived at Hitachi Seaside Park which has flowers blooming through the year.
Another big park where people can enjoy nature.
The different flowers that you can see through the year.
in one small patch, we have the orange poppies….
The main highlight would be the blue Nemophila planted on the small hill.
Enjoy the sea of blue of flowers, blue sky and the near by blue seaside.
Isn’t it pretty?
From the cold of the winter, we welcome Spring with lots of pretty colorful flowers.
The perfect blue sky day
Dreaming in the sea of blue.
Short video of the day.
Even the omiyage for the park is printed with the pretty blue flowers.
Even if you want to enjoy cycling in the park, the line to rent the bicycles were quite long too.
Me + You ONLY
Food stalls were available at the park too so let us get some snacks to fill us up….. ..
