Katsunuma, Yamanashi Day trip – before dinner

Herb Garden
An accidental find, we were deciding between a wine glass factory or just Herb Garden but it was a perfect weather to be outdoors so we took the 15 minutes drive to this free entrancy herb garden.

Herb Garden
They had installed a lot of camera stand around different spots in the garden so you can use the timer mode on your camera for your group photos. There was also a koi pond where you can feed them.

Herb Garden
It was the last few days for their rose festival where they planted different varieties of roses…..

Herb Garden
The set up was like a western garden

Herb Garden
Lavenders are being planted so that come July, there would be lavenders in bloom.

Herb Garden
There was also a foot bath nearby if you want to soak your tired feet.

Herb Garden
A very small garden but great for you to stop by for 30 minutes if you have a long drive ahead. Best of it, it is free entry.

Herb Garden
Inside their shop, they provided free cool towels for you to wipe down from the heat and get some free ice cold herbal tea.

Herb Garden
Heard from the staff that this place is a stop by for a lot of bus tours.

Herb Garden
Hopefully, not drunk people since there are many wineries around.

Hottarakashi Onsen
Up on this hill, lies a public hot spring! There are 2 hot springs for you to choose from, one with a Yamanashi city view and one with better Mount Fuji view but small bath. If you can’t decide, just throw the dice and see where it points you to.

Hottarakashi Onsen
So many wooden turtles.

Hottarakashi Onsen
Very old style public hot spring bath.

Hottarakashi Onsen
But it was crowded, even though the temperatures are soaring but I think nothing beats a nice hot soak after a day for the Japanese to conclude the end of your trip where you have hot soak to relax your muscles and washing up.

Hottarakashi Onsen
Even if you forgot your towel or it was just a last minute decision to come for a soak, you can buy a towel (200JPY) too. Photography not allowed inside but you can check out the view from their website (entrance is 800JPY)

Hottarakashi Onsen
Even the female toilet would come with a view, sorry boys, the male toilet has no view 😛

Hottarakashi Onsen
View of Yamanashi City when we soaked, too bad it was too cloudy for us to see Mount Fuji. No luck for me this year yet.

Hottarakashi Onsen
Do you spot me? There are alot of such comic cutouts around Japan and in fact, some people made it a hobby to take photos of such cut outs and create a photo album for them. I thought it is very interesting and makes you remember the place in a comical fashion, isn’t it?

Hottarakashi Onsen
Rest stations for you to buy your ice cream, drinks and food before or after the soak.

In Yamanashi, they are famous for their thick flat udon noodles cooked with golden miso with lots of pumpkin inside. Of course, we have to eat it before we go and we choose this place that says they have won 3 years straight for serving the best udon in their district.

This shop has already been in existence for 35 years.

Do not leave until you eat their famous udon.

Their pork was fed with beer so they are supposed to have a better taste

You can also choose the chicken version, the whole dish was a little salty but very flavorful. If you like pumpkins and thick miso broth than this is for you.
