Tanabata in Tokyo Disneyland – Part A

Tanabata Disneyland July 07
[Throwback July] Arrived at Tokyo Disneyland excitedly but to be dampened by the pouring rain. But people were all prepared with matching Disney raincoats. The park opened at 830am that morning but this time the cast members had signs to remind people not to run due to the rain.

The last trip here was in March, the decorations had changed to welcome the summer.

We came on July 07, which is also the day where the Japanese celebrate Tanabata (七夕) similar to the Chinese fairy tale where the weaving lady would meet her shepard only on that day.

Japanese believe in writing their wishes on stripes of paper to be hanged up and their wishes would come true. Of course, in Disneyland they are replaced with “mickey ears”.

Usually, people rushed to get the fast pass to their favorite rides but since May 29 when they started the new night projection mapping show. People would rush to get their hands on the central viewing gallery for the show at night. The seats in the central viewing gallery is based on a lottery system. You scan your park tickets and choose either the 850pm or 940pm show (2 shows a night, depending on the closure time of the park of the day). Of course, we DIDN’T get it. I think you stand a higher chance if you choose the second show as many people would opt to ballot for the earlier show.

So if you get lucky, this is where you can sit to watch the show at night.

After our ticket ballot, we headed to Toontown and first place we headed over was Goofy’s playhouse since the wait time was 15 minutes.

First time into the Cinderella’s castle. A must go for Cinderella fans.

Tanabata Disneyland July 07
Tons of art displays related to the fairy tale. This was my favorite as the birds would move around the dress, just like from the movie which had a feel of magic in it.

Tanabata Disneyland July 07
Though we were wrong, the line inside was at least 30 minutes…..even at 130pm…..*sob sob*…

So we ended at the Golden nuggets cafe for a fried chicken set with no line. Bon appetit!
