When family visits….

Sweet in Tokyo
[Throwback July] Yeah, my family finally visited me! I have been waiting for them to come for some long. I was really excited for them to come till like when it was almost the end of the trip that I felt that maybe thinking and reality is really so different. I was really tired out from the week of showing them around (laugh) that I just wanted to veg out for a few days when they left. Don’t get me wrong, I was really happy to host them and really happy to bring them out with my not so good Japanese but it was tiring.

When you have visitors, you just eat, shop and play.

Of course, they were amazed at how expensive fruits are in some supermarkets. No, we don’t eat these fruits everyone as these are mainly for people to gift to others.

Unagi lunch in Ikebukuro
First up would be eating some unagi which is the “power” food in Summer

To replenish their energy from their flight

My first actual real piece of unagi for this year. Pricey fish….

Yoshikawa dinner
Then it was another yummy dinner with home cooked food by Sushi Papa where the 2 families meet again. Though this time, I acted as the lousy translator 😛

Yoshikawa Matsuri
Sushi papa brought us to the summer matsuri in their district.

Yoshikawa Matsuri
Not as crowded as same of the ones in Tokyo as this was relatively smaller scale but most of the people in this town are out for the matsuri.

The highlight of this matsuri

Is the tossing of the float as high as possible.

Yoshikawa Matsuri
Everyone got really high as they toss the heavy floats up.

Matsuri is not completed till you visit the shrine for some street food and play some games.

Yoshikawa Matsuri
It is common for kids and tennagers to put the face mask behind their head or back.

Of course, one of the most popular games would be trying to scoop out as many goldfish as possible with a paper scoop before it melts in the water.

I totally agree – hosting visitors is so tiring even though it is a great excuse to shop, eat and play. It’s so cute that you call your FIL “Sushi Papa”! Kawaii!
